Abstract
After two years as Commissioner of Police, Howard Broad reflects on his experiences at the head of a large agency experiencing significant change. He has overseen Police's growing involvement in policy development, cross-government activity, a new Code of Conduct and new foundational legislation. This presentation describes the evolving place of Police in contemporary New Zealand society, and the challenges faced by a modern-day Commissioner of Police responding to complex criminal activity and threats to public safety.
