BREAKING NEWS:
MAN ARRESTED FOR MARIE JAMIESON MURDER:
Police investigating the Marie Jamieson homicide have arrested and
charged a 51 year old male sickness beneficiary with the rape and
murder of the 23 year old hairdresser.
The Officer in Charge
of Operation Co-Op says the arrest is very satisfying and he has
thanked the family and friends of Marie along with the New Zealand
public
for their support and patience over the past seven years.
Mr Wood praised the original enquiry team for their thorough
investigation and attention to detail. He paid tribute to the
professionalism of both his team of
investigators for their
superb work, and to the many agencies and individuals who have
assisted Police over the course of this lengthy homicide
investigation.
Marie's family are very pleased that someone
has been arrested for her murder.
In a statement the family
said.." that it has been an agonising and heartbreaking seven years
for them, and it is not over yet. We are so indebted to the police
for the
tremendous amount of effort they have put into finding
Marie's killer." Police launched a homicide investigation (Operation Co-op) after the discovery of 23 year olds body at the back of a factory in Mihini Road, Ranui, on Monday 19 February 2001.
The last confirmed sighting of Marie was at about 9.17pm on Saturday, February 10, cutting through the forecourt of the Gull service station on New North Road just prior to the intersection with Sandringham Road.
Marie did not buy anything from the Gull service station but was clearly walking along New North Road towards Mt Albert.

Marie may have walked along New North Road and up Bollard Avenue towards her home address in Methuen Road, Avondale. Police want to speak to anyone who may be able to assist us determine what Marie's movements were after 9.15pm on Saturday, February 10, 2001.

When last seen, Marie Jamieson was wearing a red t-shirt with black trim on the short sleeves and around the neck and an asymmetrical dark skirt. She was carrying a square light blue bag with a shoulder strap. Marie was Caucasian, 167cm in height and of slim to medium build. The pictures opposite show her in Henty Wines and Spirits on Saturday February 10. |
