Nelson police have reopened the 1993 investigation into the murder of Kevin O'Loughlin, aged 30, whose body was located laying on the footpath outside Dick Smith Electronics, which at that time was situated on the corner of Hardy Street and the entrance to the Montgomery car park, Nelson.

At the time of his death Kevin was married and the father of three young children.

The last known sighting of Kevin was when he was observed leaving Horatios Nightclub at 3.00am on the morning of Sunday the 2nd of May, 1993. Horatios was situated on the corner of Tahaki and Halifax Street.

It is believed that Kevin walked in the direction of Hardy Street, possibly through the Wakatu car park, containing the Suburban Bus Depot, across Bridge Street, and into the Montgomery car park where, outside Dick Smith Electronics, he was assaulted and stabbed to death.

The Nelson Police are seeking public assistance from anyone who may have been in Nelson City on the relevant morning, and who may have observed the assault. Information is also sought from members of the public who may have some knowledge of the incident through word of mouth from associates, and specifically those members of the public who believe they may know the identity of who was involved in the death of Kevin O'Loughlin.

Any information received will be treated in confidence.
