Reward Posted in 'Cold Case' Murder Enquiry
A seventy five thousand dollar reward has been posted for any information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the death, in 1998, of Japanese tourist Kayo Matsuzawa.
Background
Twenty nine year old Kayo Matsuzawa's naked and decomposing body was found in a locked cupboard near the stairwell of the Centrecourt building in central Auckland.
At the time of her death Kayo was on a working holiday in Christchurch and had travelled to Auckland for a sightseeing trip.
The investigation has remained open since September 1998 however Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Scott has recently secured the reward in the hope that it will help trigger people's memory of the homicide known as 'Operation Net'.
He believed Kayo Matsuzawa was in Auckland for only a short time before being killed.
"Maybe someone who knows about the killing of Kayo has not come forward before with information, for whatever reason but they are now prepared to" DSS Simon Scott says.
Immunity from prosecution will be considered for people who come forward with information leading to a conviction.
