Police investigating the murders of Mary Hobson, William Absolum and Wayne Johnson and the serious assault of Susan Couch at the Mt Wellington-Panmure RSA on Saturday December 8, 2001, have charged two men with the offences.

Both arrested men are from Mangere, one aged 22 the other 23. They were each charged with three counts of murder and one of assault. One man, the 23 year-old, was also charged with two counts of theft.

Officer in charge of Operation RSA, Detective Inspector Gavin Jones, said his team appreciated all the assistance it had received from the public via the media. He urged anyone with information about the attacks on Saturday December 8, to contact Police on 0800 PANMURE (0800 726 687).

Police investigating the triple homicide at the Mt Wellington-Panmure RSA say the attacks probably took place on Saturday 8th December between 6am and 9am.

One of the victims was shot. Anyone who may have heard a gun shot near the Mt Wellington-Panmure RSA between 7am and 9am on Saturday morning (8 Dec) should contact Police on 0800 PANMURE (0800 726 687).

The victims, William ABSOLUM, 63, Mary HOBSON, 44, and Wayne JOHNSON, were found at the clubrooms by a member of the RSA who had gone there for a meeting.

Susan Couch, 38, has been in a critical condition in Auckland Hospital after having neurological surgery. She was a part time employee at the Mt Wellington-Panmure RSA and is believed to have started work between 7 and 8am on the day of the killings.
